Through our education and support services, lives in Greater Bridgeport are changed forever–women’s lives, their families’ lives, and the lives of our volunteers and supporters.
Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport, Inc. (MLC) was formed in 1987 to provide free literacy and life skills education to low-income women in the greater Bridgeport area using a holistic approach within a compassionate, supportive environment. MLC’s programs focus on empowering and providing dignity, economic self-sufficiency, and hope to their students. By educating women, MLC provides critical learning for its students to improve their skills and earning potential, creating a more solid future for themselves, their families, and their community. We warmly welcome women of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities to our center.
To learn how to speak English

We assess each student’s needs and goals and then develop an academic program unique to them. A variety of support services are available to all enrolled women and their families, including free childcare and pre-school, a food and diaper pantry, case management, career counseling, citizenship assistance, and more.
Volunteers are at the heart of what we do at Mercy Learning Center. Helping a woman to learn English, advance her education, and meet her life goals is both fulfilling and fun! We hope you’ll consider joining our team of volunteers.
