Sustaining Growth, Expanding Impact: MLC Strategic Plan
Mercy Learning Center (MLC) was founded in 1987 by two former educators in Bridgeport, CT, to serve women without high school diplomas through compassionate, literacy-based programming. Since then, MLC has empowered more than 17,000 women and cared for over 2,500 children, providing education, life skills, and wraparound support free of charge.
In September 2024, MLC launched a strategic planning process, led by The Strategy Group, to chart a sustainable path for the next two years and beyond. The planning process engaged board members, staff, and volunteers in a collaborative effort to assess current programs and define strategic goals.
The Results
The result is a forward-thinking plan centered on four key areas:
Programs & Services
Expanding and adapting MLC’s holistic educational offerings.
Marketing & Communications
Building awareness and engagement through strategic messaging and a refreshed brand.
Operations & People
Strengthening internal infrastructure and team alignment.
Financial Sustainability
Diversifying funding sources and planning for long-term capital improvements.
MLC remains deeply committed to its mission: to educate and empower women and strengthen families. As the organization continues to grow, it will maintain flexibility to adjust to emerging challenges, including potential shifts in the social and political landscape. This strategic plan serves as a living roadmap to guide the organization’s efforts, foster accountability, and amplify its impact in the years ahead.
